What is The Piper’s Trail?
The pipers trail is a community engagement project run by the army in
The project offers a FREE fun packed day which introduces the kids to piping and drumming. The aim of the workshop is to encourage young people to consider taking up piping or drumming as an out of school hobby in there local pipe bands.
The day can be tailor made for both primary and secondary schools however we recommend that when working in a high school that we work with 1st and 2nd years and this should be coordinated by the music department.
At the end of each regional phase the pipers trail intent is to host a concert to thank all the schools and councils for inviting us to share the fantastic experience of being a piper or a drummer. We will be inviting local pipe band and other music group to give a short performance at the concert. This event will create the opportunity for children and parents to speak directly to the local pipe bands details and costs of practice nights. It will also be an opportunity to find out how to obtain academic qualifications in piping and drumming.
We also highlight that leaning any instrument requires a person to have some key qualities. These are the following.
- Discipline
- dedication
- commitment
- working as a team
We are able to give the schools and pupils all the required information about how they join a pipe band and also who the local pipe bands are. We can also give points of contact for the local bands. We inform the school and pupil about the academic qualification to be gained through piping and drumming and how to obtain these qualifications.
Please book early to avoid disappointment as booking will be on a first come first serve basis.
Where will the trail visit this summer?
The Piper’s Trail will predominantly visit primary and secondary schools across Scotland.
The trail will also be supporting and marching at certain Armed Forces Day events in Scotland. For more information on Armed Forces Day, you can visit their website.
There will be public performances in selected locations, showcasing the effort made by children on the workshops. It’s a busy time for the Army so we won’t have as many as last year, but we’d love to see you if you can make it to one.
