The Pipers' Trail will run as a series of events, moving progressively  through Scotland. We expect the level of players and supporters to grow in numbers as the Trail makes its way towards Edinburgh. The Pipers' Trail will start with a single piper in North Shetland and conclude at the gates of Edinburgh Castle. Integration with Scotland’s traditional folk and progressive music scene is being encouraged along the way. All the public performances of the piping and drumming will ideally be supplemented by a variety of traditional and contemporary musical acts.

The Pipers' Trail is designed from the outset to become an annual event showcasing a broad range of premier Scottish musical events gathering momentum with each contribution. Visitors, musicians and their supporters will be encouraged to join the Trail, sampling its various elements and enjoying a rich experience at each new location. It is expected that participants would come and go from the Trail as their circumstances suit to attend piping competitions, Highland Gatherings and other leisure/cultural events along the way.
