Jamie's Story

Jamie’s story is one of self discovery.

Unsure of who he is or what he wants, Jamie leaves Shetland and the comfort of his family home to embark on a journey of adventure in an attempt to emulate his Grandfather, who to him, had been one of the world’s greatest pipers; a veteran and a hero in Jamie’s eyes.

On arrival in Orkney, Jamie befriends Morag, a girl displaced by her family for her unconventional appearance and forthright attitude to life. Jamie is the first person to accept her for who she is and the two form an intense but platonic friendship.

As Jamie travels towards the World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow he is confronted with the realities of life. With his resolve continually tested Jamie experiences a variety of challenges through which he learns deep-seated lessons for life – Courage (moral and physical), Discipline, Respect, Integrity, Loyalty and Selfless commitment; together the core values.

Jamie and Morag are drawn towards Robert, an ex-serviceman now a fellow traveller. Robert embodies the core values. He acts in the role of mentor, guide and older brother. He is able to ignite in Jamie the ability to question not only himself but also the world around him. A poignant moment at Dundee Law enables Jamie to establish a clear sense of purpose and better understand his potential.

Faced with a final crisis Jamie ultimately discovers, with the support of his friends, the characteristics needed to complete his journey.

The Pipers’ Trail is an ensemble piece of musical theatre, a narrative illustrated by some of Scotland’s finest pipe tunes. It is a story for all ages.
