The Pipers' Trail visits Glaitness School, Kirkwall

Glaitness School played host to The Army in Scotland’s The Pipers’ Trail today (19/06/08) when two Army pipers and a drummer entertained two classes of pupils.

The ensemble played tunes requested by the children, told them about the Highland Bagpipes and the snare drum. The pupils also had the opportunity to have a go on the instruments themselves.

Business Manager at the school, Helen Killeen commented:

“The pupils were absolutely enthralled with the visit of the pipers.

They also enjoyed getting the opportunity of playing - or should I say trying to play the pipes. One pupil even managed to get a note out of the pipes!

They had more success with the drums”.

Pictured are pupils Kyle Drever (11) with the pipes and Jason Cook (12) wearing the Glengarry, along with pipers Corporal Neil McNaughton and Lance Corporal Colin Simpson, and Drum Major Drew Caldwell.

The school visit was one of many events The Pipers’ Trail held in Orkney.
